The Chelsea City Council will consider several resolutions and ordinances at tonight's meeting, including a rezoning request continued from the Feb. 6 Chelsea City Council meeting.
The request from Shafid Samji of Evolution Holdings LLC is to rezone a 3.54-acre property at 62 Griffin Corporate Drive from B-1 to B-2 in order to expand his business at that location. The expansion would include a used car lot in addition to the existing Chelsea Quick Mart gas station.
The Chelsea Planning Commission recommends approval of the request, according to tonight's agenda. The council first received the request, but took no action, in January. A public hearing for the request was held at the Feb. 6 meeting, during which two residents expressed concerns over the current state of the business. They mentioned that the location appeared neglected, with one resident asking the council to delay a vote in order to hear back from a water runoff study.
The council motioned to delay the vote, and it will come back before the council tonight. If approved, the rezoning would be the first of several steps, council member Scott Weygand has said.
Another agenda item is the introduction of a proposed ordinance to remove abandoned vehicles in public right of way. Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Shane Plyler, who is one of the regular contract deputies for the city of Chelsea, mentioned this as a potential ordinance at the Jan. 23 Chelsea City Council meeting.
Other agenda items include:
- A proposed ordinance for an annexation on Dorough Road.
- A proposed resolution to support legislation concerning privately-owned sewer systems.
- A proposed resolution for a public radio system upgrade and expansion in the city.
The Chelsea City Council meets for pre-council at 5:30 p.m. and regular council at 6 p.m. at Chelsea City Hall. Both pre-council and council meetings are open to the public, and the regular council meeting will be streamed on the city's Facebook page.
