CFO Cheryl Naugher shared a revenue update at the Sept. 26, 2022 Shelby County Commission Meeting
At its first meeting of June, the Shelby County Commission approved the appointment of Probate Judge-Elect Allison Boyd to the Chilton-Shelby Mental Health Board.
Boyd, who received more than 70 percent of the vote during the June 5 primary election, currently serves as Mental Health Program Coordinator and Legal Counsel for the Shelby County Probate Court. Boyd will finish out Probate Judge Jim Fuhrmeister’s term on the board, according to the appointment. Fuhrmesiter is set to retire and tendered his resignation on Friday, according to Commissioner Lindsey Allison.
“As y’all remember, Allison Boyd has served on that board before for you, so she comes with not only that experience but also with some of the recent obtained experience on crisis intervention training. We’re excited to have her join the board,” said County Manager Alex Dudchock.
The commission unanimously approved the appointment. Commissioners Ward Williams and Tommy Edwards were absent.
The commission also approved two resolutions regarding the Emergency Solutions Grant Program and Emergency Shelter Grant Program. While the matching funds for the program are always provided by agencies, Manager of Community Services Reggie Holloway said the resolutions are the county ensuring that matching funds will be available.
“We’re putting ourselves on the line, saying that the funds will be available, but we put an emphasis on the agencies that they will have a matching contribution. We’ve been doing this for 20 years, and they have not failed, they have never failed to come up with it,” Holloway said.
Also at the meeting, the commission:
- Awarded bids for detainee uniform items for juvenile detention and hydrogren peroxide for water services.
- Heard a report from Water Services Manager Michael Cain, who said everything is running smoothly.
- Heard a report from County Engineer Randy Cole. Cole said that while they have gotten debris from recent thunderstorms under control, he also encouraged the commissioners to reach out if they hear of areas where tree limbs or other storm debris remains an issue.
- Approved a resolution to record property tax insolvents, errors in assessment and litigations for the 2017 Tax Year report.
- Recognized Sheriff John Samaniego for a job well done regarding security at the USGA Women’s Open golf tournament in early June. Dudchock said that Samaniego was able to secure equipment that deter negative situations at the tournament. “It was a heck of an undertaking, but we ended up pulling it off,” Samaniego said. Commissioner Elwyn Bearden also congratulated Samaniego for being elected to serve as sheriff for another four years.
