The Shelby County Commission approved two alcohol licenses during its Nov. 28 meeting.
The applications were submitted by Beeswax Bait and Grocery in Columbiana and Heatherwood Hills Country Club off of Caldwell Mill Road. Both applications were unanimously approved by the commission.
County Manager Alex Dudchock also updated the commission on a few projects going on at Oak Mountain State Park. The county is currently building piers on the back lakes at OMSP, improving the boat parking area, reestablishing the old beach and redoing the beach at the campground off of Beaver Lake. The projects will go on for the next few weeks.
The commission also approved a resolution to adopt proposed changes to the building codes. These changes were formerly discussed about a month ago, and a public hearing was held at the Nov. 28 meeting. No one showed up for the public hearing, and County Development Services did not receive any phone calls in regard to the resolution, said Chief Development Officer Chad Scroggins.
The resolution just brought the county codes in line with state building codes, Scroggins said. The county building codes have a clause that allow them to be automatically updated every three years, but having a formal vote was a way to ensure those changes were made public.
The next county commission meeting will be Monday, Dec. 13 at 8:30 a.m.
