The Peavine Falls Run is a race that is notorious for its climb and descent through Oak Mountain State Park, but still more than 500 runners braved the heat and humidity on July 4 for the annual event.
Over the 8.2 mile course, runners gain more than 500 feet in elevation on a single-track dirt trail to reach the Peavine Falls parking lot from the south trailhead before returning to the finish line.
Hosted by the Birmingham Track Club and supported by Trak Shak, the run honored Rick Melanson, an original member of BTC and a course designer for the club. It was dedicated in his honor in 2012 after Melanson retired, former BTC president Trish Portuese previously told 280 Living.
Benjamin Knox, 20, of Trussville, won the overall men's category with a time of 47:54.5, and Presley Miles, 14, of Montgomery, won the overall women's category with a time of 53:12.6. For more results, click here.
