Jamie Green opened Ruff Kutts Grooming in June on the corner of Old Highway 280 and Shelby 51 in Sterrett.
The rain fell and the phone rang, but Jamie Green savored the chaos on June 5. Her new business, Ruff Kutts Grooming, had finally opened after one month of intensive preparation and 17 years of experience building.
“When I first opened the door, I said, ‘This was what I was supposed to do,’” Green recalled.
Green’s pet salon, located on the corner of Old Highway 280 and Shelby 51 in Sterrett, provides myriad grooming services for dogs and cats of all sizes and breeds. Green, however, limits her feline clientele to those that can be groomed without sedation. Her services include — but are not limited to — bathing, hair cutting and toenail trimming.
“I care about my clients and I care about their animals,” she said.
Green grew up on a farm and developed a passion for animals at a young age, but she originally attended cosmetology school to become a hairdresser. Pet grooming merged Green’s two interests, and she began working at Double Oak Mountain Animal Clinic 17 years ago.
Green had been grooming at another local clinic for the past decade before breaking off to start her own business.
“It was time for me to go out on my own, so that’s what I decided to do,” Green said.
With the help of friends and family, Green transformed what was once a dance studio into her new salon during the month of May.
She is now open for business Monday to Friday and has plans to open two Saturdays per month in the near future. Green can be reached at 256-404-1012.
