Apparel store UNTUCKit joins shops at The Summit
A new apparel store has landed at The Summit.
Situated between Lululemon and Madewell at 214 Summit Blvd., Suite 400, UNTUCKit opened its doors Dec. 4. The retailer is best known for its men’s dress shirts that are designed to be worn untucked.
“It’s a casual shirt for comfort and performance that looks good when it’s untucked,” said store manager Christopher Isbell, donning one of the brand’s signature shirts.
According to Isbell, UNTUCKit’s new location is the chain’s first in Alabama and 50th overall. UNTUCKit started as an online retailer in 2011 before expanding to the brick-and-mortar marketplace.
The company is growing its physical presence, according to the Associated Press, and plans to open 50 more stores in 2019.
“There are so many opportunities for us to grow, being a newer company,” said Isbell, who previously worked for retail giants such as Banana Republic and JCPenney. “The sky’s the limit.”
In addition to its men’s dress shirts, UNTUCKit sells golf shirts, T-shirts, henleys, flannels, jackets, vests and pants. Recently, the company broadened its product line to include boys and women’s wear.
Prices for the classic men’s dress shirt begin at $78, and T-shirts cost about half that. Isbell said his store will offer ongoing sales promotions, including one that provides customers a 50 percent discount on a boys shirt with the purchase of a full-price men’s shirt.
Roger Bohannon, 54, visited the new store with his wife during its opening week. The couple drove to Birmingham from Pensacola for a weekend getaway and stopped in UNTUCKit on a drizzly Friday afternoon.
Bohannon said he recognized the brand from its TV advertisements but had never worn one before stepping in the store.
“As soon as I threw one on, I loved it,” said Bohannon, who exited the doors sporting a new blue and white dress shirt. “I’m very satisfied. I’m buying more than one.”
Bohannon said he would consider making additional purchases in the future. He praised the length of the shirts, which fell just below his waist.
“I just think if you’ve never tried it, you need to try it,” he said. “I like them because regular shirts hang so low.”
According to Isbell, UNTUCKit offers sizes from slim small to three extra large. The shirts don’t compromise their length regardless of size, he said.
“We started UNTUCKit because we had trouble finding shirts that looked good untucked,” a sign in the store said. “It’s a deceptively difficult look to get right. Shirts just aren’t designed that way. So we decided to make a better shirt for the untucked man. A casual shirt fit for comfort, not convention, and designed to fall at the perfect length. So go ahead ... UNTUCKit.”
