Dentist duo put ‘family’ in family dentistry
A husband-wife dentist team recently launched their new dental practice at the Narrows.
Dr. Colynda Vu and Dr. David Ray opened Valley Ridge Family Dentistry on Aug. 5.
The couple met in their first year of dental school in Philadelphia and, after graduating, worked “across the bridge” in New Jersey for five years before deciding to move away from the cold.
Ray is originally from Decatur, so that’s what drew the couple south in 2012.
They currently live in the Narrows, so their office is just minutes away. Their 4-year-son also attends day care in close proximity, as well.
Vu had been working in different offices around the state, and Ray owned his office in Childersburg for the past several years.
The couple said they are excited to be finally working together — 13 years after they graduated.
“When we initially when moved down here, we wanted to open a practice together,” Vu said. “After the last year of talking to the development company, we found the perfect location in close proximity to our house, allowing us to be close to home and to practice in our community.”
They decided to name the practice Valley Ridge Family Dentistry, both for the area’s geography and for shared initials with the couple’s last names.
They, along with two employees, will provide dental services for the entire family and allow them to focus on their strengths. “Colynda is really good with kids,” Ray said. “I have more experience with root canals and extractions and things like that. We are also both good cosmetic dentists.”
In addition to preventative services such as cleaning and sealants, they can perform root canals, extractions and aesthetic and cosmetic services including tooth-colored fillings, teeth bleaching and veneers.
“We will be offering some of the latest technology to help our patient’s visit be more comfortable and convenient,” Vu said. “We will have massage and heated dental chairs and digital radiography. We have a very modern facility and would love to see people in the community come here for dental care.”
Valley Ridge Family Dentistry is located in the Narrows at 13521 Old Highway 280, facing U.S. 280. It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and one Friday per month.
