Free pizza to benefit KultureCity

Everyone can stop by The Summit for free pizza at lunch and dinner tomorrow.

Pieology Pizzeria has teamed up with KultureCity for a fundraising and training event. While Pieology is giving away free pizza, any donations raised during the event will go toward KultureCity’s lifeBOKS Campaign.

“We are delighted to partner with Pieology for this training event as they open their new restaurant in Birmingham,” said Julian Maha, M.D., founder of KultureCity. “Both of our organizations have similar philosophies and want to make positive differences in the communities we serve. The lifeBOKS Campaign has touched over 400 families across the nation and has already helped to save 19 children from wandering.”

The event is the first time KultureCity has been able to team up with a company that gives 100 percent of donations to the organization, said Regan Goldberg, president of Goldberg Business Consulting, LLC. While Pieology has held training events and given away free pizzas in the past, this is the first time it is partnering with a charity for the event, Goldberg said.

“Just kind of seeing what our organization looks like and what they [Pieology] were looking for with someone to partner with, it seemed like a good fit,” Goldberg said.

Each time $18 or more is donated, funding a lifeBOKS toolkit, Goldberg said they will celebrate by ringing a cowbell at the event. There will also be giveaways and T-shirts to thank visitors for some of the larger donations.

“Anything [donated], we’re appreciative of,” Goldberg said. “And they don’t have to donate either. There will still be free pizza.”

The lifeBOKS toolkit provides families with information and tools to assist families of children with autism. The toolkit is geared toward helping in wandering situations, when a child with autism might leave a safe area and potentially enter a dangerous situation. A lifeBOKS includes a family emergency plan, a QR code shoe ID tag that can be used to pull the child’s identifying information, a tracking bracelet, an autism information booklet and a wandering information booklet. The toolkit costs $18 and is distributed to families for free.

Pieology was also a good fit, Goldberg said, because of its dietary options. Many families of children with autism are gluten free, and Pieology offers gluten-free crust. Pieology also offers several meat, cheese and vegetable options for its pizzas.

Free pizzas will be given from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. at Pieology’s new location in The Summit. The restaurant will only be open during these times, and there is a limit to one free pizza per guest. Pieology Pizzeria officially opens on Aug. 27.

Pieology is located at 325 Summit Blvd., by Carmike Cinemas Summit 16.
