Grandview Medical Center is one step closer to opening.

Signage on the main building was installed this week, following several months of planning and adjustment. Fravert Services has worked with Grandview on this project for almost two years, said President Craig Fravert. After the initial design was chosen, they also worked with Grandview on size and placement.

“We’ve probably spent three or four months just figuring out the best way to mount it to the building … and determining how we were going to anchor it to the building,” Fravert said.

Because the hospital building was already standing, planning was slightly more complicated. Fravert said a lot of work went into making sure the steel beams that suspend the sign blended in with the building.

“We spent a lot of time looking at the spacing,” Fravert said. “If you look at the drawings or if you look at the face of the building, they’re all in horizontal or vertical rows.”

By meticulously measuring, the beams disappear when looking at the building head-on.

“The intent was to make it so that all you see is the letters and it looks like it’s sort of floating out there,” Fravert said.

The sign is divided into several sections and is 135 feet wide. Each section weighs around 800 pounds.

Fravert Services also constructed the sign on the Grandview Physicians Plaza signage, which was installed earlier this month. A second sign, on the backside of the main building, will go up in a few weeks.

“It was great, the owners are wonderful to work with,” said senior project manager Alison Vann. “Each project is unique and has its challenges, but that’s what makes it fun.”

Grandview Medical Center is set to open in October.
