New bakery coming to Chelsea

In a few months, Chelsea residents will have a new place to satisfy a sweet tooth. Eddie and Theresa Herrod have recently begun renovating a storefront in Benson Plaza, 100 Chelsea Corner Way, to open a bakery called Tee's Cakes and Pastries.

Eddie Herrod said his wife has been baking for years. They owned a bakery in downtown Birmingham, Herrod's bakery, during the early 2000s, and Theresa has also worked in bakeries at Walmart and Publix. Herrod said they wanted to own their own shop again, and that Chelsea does not have many bakeries in the area.

"We just decided to get back out there," he said.

Herrod said his wife's lemon cake is one of his personal favorites, but her signature pecan pie and made-to-order banana pudding have also been popular. Tee's will sell a number of pies, cakes and small pastries, as well as offer wedding cakes and catering.

"We're very eager to get [Tee's] open," Herrod said.
