Golf fans in Hoover and across metro Birmingham will soon see a megastore specializing in all things golf opening on the U.S. 280 corridor.

Alabama’s first PGA Tour Superstore will celebrate its grand opening this Saturday, June 6  at 165 Inverness Plaza near Planet Fitness. Store general manager Mike Connell said anticipation has been brewing ever since word got out that the nation’s only official golf retail store operated by the PGA Tour was coming to Hoover.

“Our customers are so excited,” he said. “A lot of them have been driving to the PGA Superstore store in Atlanta.”

The PGA Superstore is in a 25,000-square-foot building that previously housed a Food World grocery store. Besides equipment including clubs, the store sells golf apparel, shoes and accessories. It also offers lessons for experienced golfers and novices, Connell said.

Turnout exceeded expectations when the PGA Tour Superstore held a job fair at the Marriott Courtyard on Colonnade Parkway in early April, Connell said.

This is the 23rd PGA Tour Superstore nationally, with the closest in Atlanta. Connell said the company was attracted by Alabama's love of golf, as evidenced by the success of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.

He has said the U.S. 280 corridor, close to several popular golf courses including Greystone, is a great fit for the store. Connell relocated to Birmingham to open this store after spending the previous six months opening a PGA Tour Superstore in Orlando.
