Preview of May Luncheon

The South Shelby Chamber of Commerce plans to spotlight health care entities in the county at its May 4 luncheon.

The scheduled speaker is Allison Boyd, the mental health programs coordinator and legal counsel for Shelby County Probate Court. Boyd said she plans to talk about crisis intervention training for law enforcement and emergency medical personnel, who often come in contact with people who suffer from mental illness.

Boyd, who lives in the Greystone area, said she is trying to help develop a more coordinated effort to train first responders how to handle such situations and direct people and families to mental help resources that can assist them.

The May 4 luncheon is at First Baptist Church of Columbiana. The cost is $15. No RSVP is required. The chamber also plans to have a health fair that morning before the luncheon.
