The 70-year run of Birmingham’s Rogers Trading Company is coming to a close. Owner Lee Rogoff, who has run Rogers Trading Company for 45 years, said the reason they are closing is he is just ready to “enjoy my life a little bit.”

“I decided to retire, so we’re going to run a retirement sale, and it’s going to start next Thursday [Nov. 17],” Rogoff said. “And how long it runs? You don’t know with these things.”

Rogoff owns the building behind Logan’s Roadhouse on U.S. 280, where Rogers Trading Company is located, so there is no limit on how long the retirement sale will last. Rogers Trading Company started as an Army/Navy store downtown, transformed into a hunting and fishing store and now focuses as an outdoors store. The store has received great support from the community along the 280 corridor, Rogoff said.

“They’ve been great, the whole 280 corridor,” he said. “I personally think these people are going to be shocked and they’re going to say, ‘Why are you closing?’”

The store carries brands such as Columbia, North Face, Patagonia, True Grit, KUHL, Salomon, Yeti and several others. In addition to everything being on sale, there will be a raffle to win the store’s mascot, a 1953 Jeep Willys.

Rogers Trading Company is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. It is located behind Logan’s Roadhouse at 140 Resource Center Parkway.

“I have no regrets,” Rogoff said. “It’s been a great 45 years.”
