Shelby Baptist names new CFO

Shelby Baptist Medical Center announced on June 30 that Zach Abercrombie has been named Chief Financial Officer (CFO). He will also have additional responsibility for Citizens Baptist Medical Center in Talladega, also owned by Brookwood Baptist Health.

Abercrombie is a senior level healthcare executive with nearly 20 years of financial experience, and has served in a number of roles across the Brookwood Baptist Health System.

After several years in public accounting, Abercrombie began his tenure with the Baptist Health System in 2007, first serving as Controller of Shelby Baptist Medical Center and was later named CFO of Citizens Baptist Medical Center. His next appointment as CFO of Walker Baptist Medical Center, and most recently, Abercrombie served as Assistant CFO at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center, the largest among the five-hospital system.

Abercrombie has a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Jacksonville State University and a Master of Science in Health Administration from St. Joseph’s University, along with his public accountant certification. During his tenure with Brookwood Baptist Health, Abercrombie graduated from the Tenet Finance Academy.

Shelby Baptist Medical Center Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Listi said he is excited Zach will be returning to Shelby Baptist. 

“We are fortunate to have his wealth of experience from having worked in multiple hospitals across the Brookwood Baptist Health System, along with the relationships he has forged that will serve him well as the financial lead for both Shelby and Citizens,” said Listi. “Zach has an outstanding record of achievement in leading optimal financial outcomes, and we anticipate continued success in this new role.”
