The South Shelby Chamber of Commerce plans to kick off the new year with the opportunity to honor outstanding members of the community.

At the 12th annual Diamond Awards on Jan. 11, the South Shelby Chamber will recognize business of the year, new business of the year, citizen of the year, nonprofit of the year and public servant of the year.

“We want to hear about the good work that our small and large businesses are doing in Shelby County,” the chamber said via a press release. “This is an opportunity to let people know they are appreciated.”

The awards, which take the place of the chamber’s usual monthly luncheon, will be at Columbiana First Baptist Church. There will not be a keynote speaker this month, chamber Director April Stone said, so that the focus can be on the honorees.

The South Shelby Chamber accepted nominations for the five categories from Nov. 15, 2017, through early January, and all nominees will be recognized during the luncheon.

After all nominees are announced, a winner for the category will be announced.

While most South Shelby Chamber luncheons do not require an RSVP, the Diamond Awards will require one. The cost is $15, and cash, credit cards and checks are accepted. For more information or to RSVP, go to southshelbychamber.com.
