Women in Business: Dr. Irma Leon Palmer - Chiropractic Today

by

When Dr. Irma Leon Palmer looks back on when she started, she can hardly believe it’s been 25 years. To her, it’s been amazing and — to tell the truth — very quick.

A lot of things have changed since she first opened her practice, Chiropractic Today. “The technological advancements have been tremendous by allowing us to be paperless, have a large screen digital X-ray and surface computerized muscle and nerve testing, to videoing each specific functional movement capacity throughout their care,” Palmer said.

Additionally, they have added nutritional testing which allows them to determine an individual’s current state of deficiency and toxicity. This leads to specific supplementation recommendations that through years of industry research and development has greatly enhanced their ability to improve and sustain one’s vitality.

“What I truly enjoy the most about my practice is the energy, the great practice members, the life-long relationships and the ‘a-ha’ moments people experience. Working with those like-minded individuals seeking to live well is a blessing,” Palmer said. “Ultimately, at the end of the day, it’s about helping individuals evolve towards a balanced fulfilling life.”

One common misconception about chiropractic care is that a patient goes once and they are either done or hooked for life. According to Palmer, a healthy recovery, similar to getting in shape, is not a one-time deal. Therefore, each patient’s length of care is determined by the extent the individual wants to regain capacity and live a healthy life.

For many in Palmer’s practice, health, wellness and a high level of functional capacity are very important. “Life is meant to be living it, preferably, wide open because you can,” Palmer said.

Palmer’s advice for chronic pain sufferers is to take steps toward pain reduction. An individual can either be an uncomfortable passenger of it or a comfortable driver moving toward a solution. “The truth is, the body communicates in a lesser than correct function when there is a problem present. Symptoms are the body language. Address the cause of the problem and not the effects. Seek the solution to get relief and restore function and consider conservative chiropractic care first,” Palmer said.

Palmer would also advise that individuals never stop pursuing greater levels of health, wellness and functional capacity.

“Live as congruently as God intended. Faith first, natural health second, by eating foods from the earth, incorporating daily physical movement, guarding and directing your thoughts and allowing the power that made the body flow and heal you.” Palmer said. “Seek natural oriented doctors. Living well is in our genetics.”

Palmer has big plans for the future of her practice. This year, she would like to implement utilization of internet-based education classes in both English and Spanish, as well as adding functional medicine to expand the practice’s resources of helping the community reach higher levels of health.

“We are excited about partnering with local like-minded businesses to hold off site workshops to do tasty and healthy cooking classes,” Palmer said. Follow Chiropractic Today on Facebook for more information about these upcoming events.
