Women in Business: Ernestine Grimes - RealtySouth

by

Ernestine Grimes knows the process of finding and moving into a new home inside and out. As a U.S. Army veteran — and the wife of an Army officer — Grimes moved many times before settling in Birmingham.

After seven years in the Army and 20 years as a middle school social studies teacher, Grimes decided to try out a new career path. She got her real estate license about 14 years ago and has been selling homes in Inverness and along the U.S. 280 corridor ever since.

“I especially enjoy working with first-time homebuyers. I love seeing them get excited about owning property,” she said.

The most important part of being a real estate agent, Grimes said, is paying attention to how clients are feeling and making sure a home is right for them.

“I listen and make sure this is what they want,” she said. “I can tell if a home is a good fit for them.”

Her past careers taught Grimes patience, dedication, communication and good listening skills, all of which help her become a better real estate agent. She has a passion for homes and helping homebuyers and sellers.

Grimes is an agent with RealtySouth because she likes “how they care for their people” and make sure every agent is trained, equipped and ready to go into the field.

As for the future, Grimes’ wish is simple: “I just want to keep selling for as long as I can.”
