Women in Business: Lisa Marie - Everyday Pet Styles

by

After growing up working in her parents’ grooming salon, Lisa Marie decided that she wanted to try something different. Lisa Marie went to college seeking out art courses, and she thought that she wanted to make a career out of being a traveling journalist.

But while she was in school, the groomers who worked for her father walked out right before the start of the holiday season. He called Lisa Marie to ask her to come back to help with the salon, which she hesitantly agreed to.

“That was really a turning a point for me,” Lisa Marie said. “I started picking it up again and realized what I had been missing.”

Lisa Marie moved to Alabama, and she opened Everyday Pet Styles in Chelsea. Lisa Marie said because she received such a warm welcome from all of her clients, she knew that she had made the right choice.

“After moving down here, I was surprised by the amount of friendliness, generosity and kindness,” she said.

By working with people who are so warm and friendly, Lisa Marie said, it has allowed her to build relationships with all of the clients.

“I see these people every four weeks,” Lisa Marie said. “They have my time, and they have my ear.”

Lisa Marie treats her clients as she would want to be treated, and she understands the difficulty that some clients have with making and keeping appointments when they have so much going on in their lives. Lisa Marie said she has often experienced clients having to cancel last minute because of an emergency such as their child being sick.

“Some [other groomers] charge for that, but life happens,” Lisa Marie said. “I like someone to be lenient and merciful to me, so I give that to my clients.”

Being a single mom of a college graduate, Lisa Marie said that she understands how difficult a busy schedule can be.

“It’s just me taking care of him, but just like every other woman who takes care of her household, you’ve got to do it,” she said.

Lisa Marie said balancing her personal life with running Everyday Pet Styles can be challenging at times, but she never has problems making time for work, seeing as how it brings her so much happiness.

While she enjoys grooming itself, this profession makes her especially happy to be able to meet the needs of her clients.

“People are busy and want something that [is] easy for them,” Lisa Marie said. “Their dogs are on their laps and sleeping their bed, so they want them to be clean.”

Throughout her experience as a pet groomer, Lisa Marie said one thing has not changed.

“People are so in love with their dogs,” Lisa Marie said. “That desire to have their dogs cute, fluffy and clean hasn’t changed at all.”
