Women in Business: Dr. Cherie Johnson, DC, CFMD - Functional Medicine Practitioner at Chiropractic Acupuncture Health Center

by

Dr. Cherie Johnson and the Chiropractic Acupuncture Health Center have practiced alternative methods of conventional medication for more than 20 years. Chiropractic nutrition has always been in her family, but Johnson said it also encompasses more than treating musculoskeletal conditions.

“I focus more on whole body health. Many of my patients have chronic syndromes and diseases and are frustrated with conventional medicine. They are looking for an alternative that is not a prescription-based treatment,” she said.

The clinic’s patients will find themselves in the reliable care of Johnson and her staff, who strive to bring relief not only to present symptoms, but also treatment for their complete chronic issues.

“We like to look for the root cause of your condition and work on this versus working on just the signs and symptoms. To do this, we utilize chiropractic, acupuncture, supplements, labwork, nutritional counseling and functional medicine,” she said.

The Chiropractic Acupuncture Health Center’s use of acupuncture and functional medicine (blood work, lab work, saliva testing, stool sampling and urinalysis) gives people more options for health care rather than a simple diagnosis and prescription drugs.

“Patients seem to be frustrated with this form of health care, and we want to offer a more personal-based treatment protocol, changing their lifestyle to resolve many health issues,” Johnson said.

Resolving these issues brings the wellness physician both excitement and joy. She especially enjoys teaching her patients about general health.

“I get a thrill out of explaining their body and how it works, so they know what to do at home to have a healthier and better quality of life,” she said, taking pride in making an impact on her patients’ lives.

“I love when they come back proud that they stopped doing a bad habit or eating and drinking something that they thought was healthy but was really causing them to get sick.”

As a doctor and business owner, Johnson spends long hours researching the newest treatments and business practices in order to keep her practice up-to-date and efficient.

“Most people don’t realize that we are working behind the scenes, continuing our education, marketing, working on notes and files, research patients health concerns. It is never ending,” she said.

Although there’s a lot of work that goes into running the practice, Johnson enjoys the freedom it permits.

“I do have freedom to choose, when I want to work, when not, how I want to run my business, how I want to help my patients,” she said. “Most doctors who work for a corporation do not have that freedom and have to follow a stringent guideline, which loses that personal touch with the patient.”

The staff at Chiropractic Acupuncture Health Center wants to build close connections with their patients and teach them critical lessons about their health.

“I like our one-on-one personal relationship with the patient. I enjoy sitting and actually talking and listening to my patient to try to get to the root cause of the condition,” she said.
