Women in Business: Leslie Sawyer, MD, and Megan Moore, PA-C - Pathway Pediatrics

by

Pathway Pediatrics is a pediatric practice offering health care services to children from birth to age 18.

In addition to pediatric primary care, Pathway Pediatrics offers lactation services with an international board-certified lactation consultant, health and nutrition services with a registered dietitian, medical ear piercing and FDA-approved ADHD testing.

The clinical staff is composed entirely of RNs and LPNs. The practice also offers Saturday sick patient appointments for urgent health care.

Pathway Pediatrics owner and president Dr. Leslie Sawyer has been practicing pediatric medicine in Sylacauga since 2008. Megan Moore, PA-C, joined her in 2013. In 2014, the two women founded Pathway Pediatrics with a vision of providing excellent pediatric medical care to the area’s children.

Although some may consider this a relatively unprecedented business partnership, Sawyer and Moore work hard to maintain a successful practice.

“We strive to put Christ first in our lives and in our business,” Moore said. “We believe that we were led to open Pathway Pediatrics as a way to glorify God and serve our community through faith-based values.”

Pathway Pediatrics, Moore said, is set apart because of its mission to serve others by first fostering a Christ-centered work environment for the practice. Sawyer and Moore believe having a strong and supportive staff encourages great teamwork, which easily leads to a positive work environment and loving patient care.

“We will continue to raise our standard of excellence moving forward to ensure we are always serving our patients with quality and integrity,” Sawyer said. “We strive to provide excellent patient care in a field that is ever-evolving. In addition, we strive to make our business a great place to work where employees have an opportunity for growth.”

Sawyer and Moore enjoy the challenges that come with being businesswomen, they said. The two are both charged with balancing beings moms, wives, leaders, as well as medical caregivers.

“Maintaining the home and work-life balance has been much more challenging than anticipated,” Moore said. “It is quite delicate to make our business a great place to work and bring care to children all while keeping our families a priority.”

“Our primary role at Pathway Pediatrics is to provide excellent medical care to each and every child and their family,” Sawyer said. “We have to then squeeze in the business aspect of our company and, of course, make our families a priority.”

The two women overcome the challenges by being completely passionate about their practice.

The best part of Moore’s job, she said, is helping the resource-limited population navigate the health care system. Sawyer enjoys being able to help families cope and manage ADHD and other learning and behavioral issues.

“Being able to provide and have access to excellent pediatric care close to home is so rewarding,” Moore said.

The two hope to see Pathway Pediatrics continue to grow and uphold their standard of excellence in the years to come.
