Four law enforcement professionals assigned to the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force have completed a yearlong certification process to become certified Criminal Intelligence Analysts.

Investigator Dylan Baker of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office; Investigator Mark Volz of the Pelham Police Department; Operations Specialist Anna Shinbaum of the Shelby County Commission; and Officer Steve Hataway of the Alabaster Police Department received new titles as Certified Crime and Intelligence Analysts, in addition to their normal duties.

During 2017, these four individuals completed 148 hours of graduate level courses in crime analysis, criminal investigative analysis, organized crime and intelligence analysis and law enforcement research and statistical methods.

In response to the new analysts and their certified skillset, Lt. Clay Hammac, commander of the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force, said: “This is a significant accomplishment. As narcotics enforcement continues to evolve, we must equip ourselves with the necessary skills to remain two steps ahead of our illegal drug suppliers. The citizens of Shelby County will be well served by our new crime analysts. We all offer our sincere congratulations to them and are each appreciative of their steadfast dedication and sacrifice.”
