A $500 reward is being offered for information on the person responsible for damaging a new sign at St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church off of Highway 39.

The church put up the sign as an entryway to its 20 acres and future home. It took a year and a half to raise money for the sign.

Chelsea COP public relations director Jay Jerman said the sign was damaged on Saturday, Sept. 5. A suspect slammed a sharp object into the sign and dragged it across. It will cost $4,283.60 to repair the sign.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is now handling the case, which will be handled as a felony because damage was more than $2,500. Anyone with information can contact Investigator Andrew Stanley at 670-6173. The first person with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect will qualify for the $500 reward.
