Alabama Day of Prayer event at OMIS

Governor Dr. Robert Bentley has proclaimed this Friday, March 29, "Day of Prayer Over Students Across Alabama." As a part of the day, First Priority is coordinating an event Oak Mountain Intermediate School at 7:05 a.m.

Students from Oak Mountain High School that have been mentoring students at Oak Mountain Intermediate School will be coming to pray over students at Oak Mountain Intermediate School. Parents and other adults are also invited to participate and come pray over the students.

At the request of First Priority of Alabama, Governor Bob Riley proclaimed the first statewide Day of Prayer Over Students in 2006.

First Priority coordinates hundreds of local school Christian campus clubs. This local ministry is encouraging Alabamians to pray for students as they are faced with challenges such as peer pressure to abuse drugs and alcohol, negative influences in the media, school violence and gang activities, fear and low self-esteem.

“We are thankful once again for the Governor’s proclamation," First Priority Greater Birmingham Executive Director Matt Wilson said. "Praying for students is not just a privilege, it's a necessity. They face an enormous amount of peer pressure to become part of what is considered normal by the world’s standards. Without prayer, these students will not be able to stand against the insurmountable odds they will face from childhood until they leave this world. We invite you to join us in prayer on this important day.”
