Alabama Voter Guide for Nov. 8 election

Even people living under a rock likely know that Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are in a heated battle for president of the United States in the Nov. 8 election, along with Libertarian Gary Johnson and the Green Party’s Jill Stein.

But there are a host of other races to be decided on Nov. 8 ballots in the Birmingham area, including seats for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, Alabama Public Service Commission, Alabama Board of Education, Alabama Supreme Court, numerous county judges and other county elected positions, such as district attorney and treasurer.

Plus, voters are being asked to give their opinion on 14 statewide amendments to the Alabama Constitution and an amendment in Jefferson County that would declare that garbage bills are the responsibility of tenants, rather than landlords.

BirminghamWatch, a nonprofit news organization, has partnered with Starnes Publishing, Weld For Birmingham, WBHM, B-Metro, Trussville Tribune and the Birmingham Public Library to compile and distribute a nonpartisan voter guide designed to inform the public about candidates and issues on the ballot.

The Voter Guide includes candidate bios, summaries of the amendments, sample ballots for Jefferson and Shelby counties, and information about polling places, voter ID and campaign finances. See the full Voter Guide for the Nov. 8 general election.
