During the Sept. 3 Chelsea City Council meeting, Chelsea was honored as a 2018 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. Katie Wiswall, Urban & Community Forestry Partnership Coordinator for the Alabama Forestry Commission presented Mayor Tony Picklesimer and city council members with a flag and sign, recognizing their commitment to effective urban forest management.

First named a Tree City in 1999, this is the 20th year Chelsea has earned the recognition. Wiswall gave her congratulations on the honor.

“The fact that Chelsea is so committed to the tree city program and making trees important in your community is extremely laudable,” Wiswall said. “This is a national recognition program administered by the Arbor Day Foundation and it just really shows what kind of community you are to take the time and effort to care about your trees. We really appreciate that and I understand y’all have some of the best Arbor Day programs in this part of town.”

Also during the meeting, the council approved an authorization for the city to obtain a line of credit at Renasant Bank for the development cost of the new business park.

Three annexation ordinances were passed with a unanimous vote and include:
