Arrest made in fatal hit-and-run

Birmingham Police Department received several tips from the public regarding a Wednesday morning fatal hit-and-run on U.S. 280. A suspect was arrested and is being held at Birmingham City Jail, police reported Friday.

"The Birmingham Police Department received numerous tips from the public regarding this fatal accident and would like to thank everyone for their assistance," a release from Birmingham police said. "As a result of the tips received and the tireless work by our Traffic Homicide Unit and Homicide Unit, an arrest was made today."

The suspect is on a 48-hour hold and investigators are presenting the case to the Shelby County District Attorney's Office. When a warrant is obtained, the suspect's name and mugshot will be released. 

Police received a call regarding the accident Wednesday at 5:39 a.m. The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 280 and Key Drive, near the Chick-fil-A.

A vehicle struck the victim as she crossed U.S. 280 on foot. The victim’s remains have been transferred to Montgomery for an autopsy, and her identity will be released after family is notified.
