Two teenagers were arrested on Saturday, Sept. 26 and charged with third degree burglary and third degree theft of property.

Brian Tyler Hughes and Jonathan Michael Haney, both 18 years old, were apprehended after a potential burglary at the Chelsea youth baseball fields was reported. Shelby County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting that someone might have burglarized the concession stand at the park, and deputies found someone broke a window and took two cash registers form the property.

A car was found in the parking lot at the baseball fields, and deputies located Hughes, the vehicle’s owner, nearby. Hughes was with Haney, and deputies later determined both teens committed the burglary.

Hughes and Haney are being held at Shelby County Jail with $6,000 bond each.

“This is a wonderful example of a citizen immediately calling us when he noticed a suspicious situation,” Sheriff John Samaniego said. “Because of the citizen’s quick reaction, your deputies were able to respond quickly and collect valuable evidence which led to the arrests of those involved and the recovery of property to the Chelsea Youth Baseball program.”
