An eighth grader at Chelsea Middle School was arrested Monday after reportedly making terroristic threats, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The school told the sheriff’s office that a 14-year-old made threats toward the end of the school day on Thursday, Feb. 25. Deputies and investigators started interviewing individuals Thursday and Friday, according to the sheriff’s office, and the interviews continued on Monday.

The student did not come to school Friday or Monday, and investigators determined which student made the threats, according to a release. The student was arrested at his home Monday around 5:30 p.m., and he was charged with terrorist threats.

He is being held at Shelby County Juvenile Facility.

Sheriff John Samaniego issued a statement, saying he was proud of the teamwork between Chelsea Middle School and the sheriff’s office.

“In all, close to 30 students were interviewed to make sure enough probable cause existed to arrest the accused,” he said. “I want to thank the county commission and board of education who continue to support the Safe Schools initiative program.”
