Chelsea resident hit, killed by mini van while on sidewalk

A Chelsea man was hit and killed on Tuesday when a mini van left the roadway, according to authorities.

James Fay, 71, was walking on a sidewalk in the Chelsea Station subdivision when the mini van left the roadway and hit him, according to a release from Birmingham Highway Patrol. Alabama State Troopers responded to the crash around 11 a.m., and Fay was taken to UAB Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 8:45 p.m.

The mini van was driven by a Hispanic male, according to the release, but the driver’s identity is unconfirmed at this time. The crash is still under investigation.
