A 15-year-old Chelsea High School student was arrested by Shelby County deputies on Friday.

A parent notified the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office that a student had threatened to blow up a classroom, according to a press release. The alert came in before the school day began, and deputies and investigators worked to secure the school.

Deputies and school staff then identified the student and determined that student was not at school.

“With the help of school staff, deputies located the student at their residence and the student admitted to making the threats, although did not have the means to carry out the threat,” according to the press release.

The student was arrested for making terrorist threats and is being held at the Shelby County Juvenile Facility.

“With the help of school administrators, we quickly determined the students and faculty of Chelsea High School were in no immediate danger,” Sheriff John Samaniego said in the release. “Despite the fact this young person did not have the capabilities to carry out the threat, it was taken seriously by school staff and the deputy assigned to Chelsea High School.”
