City of Chelsea assumes responsibilities for select roads in Chelsea Park

by

The City of Chelsea has officially accepted maintenance responsibility of select roads in the Chelsea Park neighborhood.

Chelsea Park developer Doug Eddleman requested the city to accept Chelsea Park first and third sector roads, according to a resolution that came before the Chelsea City Council at its July 26 meeting, and city engineer Keith Hager reviewed the roads included in the request. Hager checked the condition of the streets, curbs and gutters and checked that the final top or seal coat had been applied. Hager recommended the city accept the following streets: Kingston Road, Kingston Court, Kingston Lane, Kingston Circle, Ashworth Drive, Dunsmore Drive, Dunsmore Way, Parkmont Way, Fairbank Lane, Fairbank Way and Fairbank Circle.

All present members of the council approved the resolution.

Mayor Pro Tempore Juanita Champion noted that the city was only accepting responsibility for maintenance of the roads, and it would not be responsible for regulating parking or maintaining lighting on the roads. Council member Dale Neuendorf also noted the city has a one-year warranty on the roads’ top coat, as per the resolution.

Also during the city council meeting, City Clerk Becky Landers told the council and meeting attendees that absentee ballots arrived at city hall on Tuesday, and she has already started receiving applications. She also reminded everyone that the deadline to register to vote in August's elections is Aug. 8. Also in regard to elections, council member Tony Picklesimer also reminded all attendees that no matter where they vote for state or national elections, Chelsea City Hall is the only voting location in municipal elections.

Landers also told the council and meeting attendees that CSX Transportation on Tuesday told her repairs to lighting equipment at the railroad crossing in front of city hall should be completed in 48 hours. The equipment was damaged in a fatal crash between a car and train which occurred Sunday night.
