This afternoon, the city of Chelsea launched the first of four videos as part of their new Home is Here campaign.

Originally planned to be released in the spring, COVID-19 caused some roadblocks with the project, but several months later, the project is now ready and captures Chelsea residents living their lives in the city they call home.

A marketing committee made up of city council member Casey Morris, Chelsea Public Information Office Wayne Morris, Chelsea Community Center Programs Director Jane Ann Mueller, Chelsea City Clerk Crystal Etheridge and city GIS coordinator Gerri Roberts came together to come up with a scope of work and a theme for the promotional videos.

The videos were shot and produced by local company, Pitts Media. Owner Philip Pitts has been a Chelsea resident for over 20 years and located his business in the city. Morris said in working with the company, they were able to capture what it’s like living in Chelsea.

“The videos will encompass all things we hold as important for our city, Casey Morris said. “All the things that are important to us were adopted in the theme Home is here. You’ll see that as we go forward. It's awesome having a hometown business working on this project.”

Home is Here is the first video, focusing on highlighting values of the families in Chelsea and why they choose to make Chelsea home, the quality of life they enjoy and the amenities there are to experience. Other upcoming videos include Live Above, True Southern Values and Growing Together.

Morris added that Chelsea has a fairly diverse population that includes younger couples and families who are new to the area along with families that have lived in the city since the town was founded.

“We want to grow in a way that will be smart growth,” Morris said. “The city council and Planning and Zoning Commission have done phenomenal things in the last two years to make that happen with the overlay district and the Plan Chelsea comprehensive plan.”

Pitts said that he enjoyed working on the project that is close to home for him. He said the people in Chelsea are special and the city is different from anywhere else.

“That unity, everyone is proud of it,” Pitts said. “Chelsea in my opinion, is the best city tucked in the mountains with the natural beauty. You can live in a neighborhood, on 10 acres or on 2,000 acres. There’s something to offer for everyone.”

The videos are not only aimed at residents, but people outside of the city.

“Chelsea is the first breath of fresh air coming over Double Oak Mountain,” Pitts said. “This is a very exciting project coming to fulfillment for the city of Chelsea.

Each of the four videos will be released one out one at a time over a four to six month period and will be posted on all the city’s social media accounts.
