Chelsea voters will have a new polling and voting location this November.

During the June 27 Shelby County Commission meeting, the commission approved a resolution to relocate a few locations throughout the county. Rather than vote at Liberty Baptist Church in Chelsea, voters in Precinct 47 will vote across the road at the Chelsea Community Center starting with the Nov. 8 election.

The decision to change voting and polling locations was made due to an increase in the number of voters, which Liberty Baptist Church can no longer accommodate, according to the resolution. The community center “provides for growth, convenience and an accommodating setting for voters in Precinct 47,” according to the resolution.

Voters will not only vote at the community center on Nov. 8, but will vote there for all future primary, run-off elections and other elections. The Chelsea Community Center is located at 11101 Chelsea Road.

The resolution also moved the Precinct 4 voting and polling location in Vincent from Vincent City Hall to the Vincent Revival Center.

The commission also approved a resolution to appoint Allen Rice to the National Center for Fire and Life Safety Foundation board. Rice has 27 years of public safety and healthcare experience and is employed by the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission. He will replace Billy Hayes on the board.

At the recommendation of County Attorney Butch Ellis and County Manager Alex Dudchock, the commission entered an executive session to discuss litigation and negotiations associated with a potential purchase of property. The meeting adjourned following the executive session.
