Light agenda for Monday's County Commission meeting

by

The agenda was light for Monday morning’s Shelby County Commission meeting on July 8.

A resolution of public nuisance was passed for a property owner on Highway 46 after the third and final notice of violation letter for operating land as an unpermitted landfill. The area is in Commissioner Kevin Morris’ District 1, and he thanked Chad Scroggins and the group at Development Services for their assistance in the investigation.

“This is a recurring issue and at this point in time, the landowner has not complied to our request to the fullest extent. This resolution gives the county manager and county attorney approval to proceed with civil action for this unpermitted garbage dump site being a public nuisance,” Morris said.

The Commission also authorized the action by the Shelby County Economic Industrial Development Authority (SCEIDA) to incorporate their bylaws to have the board set up the same as 58 Inc., so they can do business by having meetings back to back. This was approved by the SCEIDA board on June 13.

County Manager Alex Dudchock said “this was already authorized when 58 Inc. was created. The sequencing action was fully disclosed with all parties and was always intended and always expressed.”

During the County Manager’s report, Dudchock handed out a copy of the Chilton Shelby Mental Health Strategic Plan online survey and an evaluation for the analysis of the Quality of Place and Wellness Services in Shelby County. The survey is sponsored by the Shelby County Commission and is being conducted by staff at the University of Alabama.

Other resolutions approved included:

The next Shelby County Commission meeting will be Tuesday, July 22 at 6 p.m. at the County Services building in Columbiana.
