County debuts plans for upcoming road projects
During the April 22 Shelby County Commission meeting, County Engineer Randy Cole presented plans for the repair, resurfacing and traffic striping projects for various roads in Shelby County.
“This paving project has a rough estimate anticipated to be over $5 million,” Cole said. “The money the county has earmarked is less than half and we will take money out of reserves [for the rest].”
The project bid date was set for April 25, and Cole said they would try to get the contractor started as soon as the winning bid is chosen.
The list includes roads across the county, but those in the 280 Living coverage area are:
- County Road (CR) 41 (Dunnavant Valley Road): 14,890 feet between U.S. 280 and Mt Laurel, and 26,830 feet from Shoal Creek to State Road (SR) 25 in Dunnavant
- Valleydale Road: 7,800 feet south of Lakeside Drive to CR-29, and 400 feet at the intersection of CR-29 and Heatherwood Drive
- CR-447 (Salser Lane): 4,100 feet off CR-32, between CR-49 and CR-51
- CR-445 (Dorough Road): 4,867 feet off CR-32, between SR-49 and CR-51
- CR-32 (Pumpkin Swamp Road): 23,105 feet between CR-49 and CR-51
- Cahaba Beach Road: 1,160 feet north off U.S. 280 at Valleydale Road
- Stonehenge Road: 1,170 feet west off CR-29, south of CR-14
- Indian Valley Road: 3,450 west off Valleydale Road, south of CR-29 to Indian Lake Drive
- Heritage Oaks Circle: 1,620 feet
- Heritage View Road: 2,570 feet
- Heritage Oaks Parkway: 730 feet
- Heatherwood Place: 480 feet off Heatherwood Drive
- Indian Springs Lane: 865 feet
- Oak Ridge Drive: 1,950 feet
- Southern Drive: 1,730
- Sports Blast: 750 feet off CR-41
- Chelsea Corners Way: 1,400 feet between CR-47 and CR-280
Cole said bids were also open on the project at County Road 12 and County Road 22. The lowest contractor bid for that project was within the budget at $933,000 and it will be formally approved at the next meeting.
At the end of the regular meeting, the commission went into executive sessions for land/contract negotiations for the purchase or sale of property. Executive sessions are closed to the public.
The next Shelby County Commission meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. on May 13 at the Shelby County Administration Building.
