Local fire departments collecting donations for Hurricane Harvey relief effort

Cahaba Valley Fire and Chelsea Fire and Rescue are now accepting donations for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

Any donations will be accepted at Cahaba Valley Fire Station 181 through Saturday, Sept. 2 at 5 p.m., and on Sunday, a trailer will take the donations directly to Houston, according to a press release. The trailer will carry donations from CVFD as well as other collection sites.

Items needed include:

CVFD Station 181 is located at 5487 Highway 280 across the street from the Village at Lee Branch shopping center.

Chelsea Fire and Rescue has partnered with Chelsea Church of God to collect items. The church will deliver supplies on Sept. 17, and Chelsea Fire and Rescue Station 31, located at 160 Chesser Drive, will receive donations through Sept. 16.

Accepted items include bottled water, basic toiletries, baby supplies and non-perishable food. Money and clothes cannot be accepted through this program, according to a post on the Chelsea FD Facebook page.
