CVFD to build Dunnavant Valley fire station

by

The Cahaba Valley Fire and Emergency Medical Rescue District announced plans to build a new fire station today.

The station, which will be named Station 182, will be located on Dunnavant Valley Road, about a quarter of a mile north of the Shoal Creek Community, according to a release from CVFD Public Information Office Grant Wilkinson. The station will have a fire engine and rescue unit, as well as direct access both to Dunnavant Valley Road and into the Shoal Creek neighborhood.

The release said the new station will cause a decrease in response times to emergency calls from Shoal Creek, Stone Gate Farms, The Shires, Hollybrook Lake, Smyers Lake, Lake Wehapa, Spring Stone and other nearby residents.

Wilkinson said Wednesday that he is unsure if the new station will require the hiring of new firefighters. CVFD has applied for a SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) grant through FEMA and they are waiting to hear whether they will receive it.

Construction is set to begin this summer and is planned for completion by the end of 2016. Williams Blackstock is designing the station.
