Destination Hoover International offers scholarships to Hoover, Spain Park seniors

Destination Hoover International, a nonprofit group that aims to build connections between Hoover and other countries, is offering scholarships to Hoover and Spain Park seniors who plan to major in an international field.

The group this spring plans to award a $2,000 scholarship to a senior at Hoover High and a senior at Spain Park High. The application deadline has been extended to April 10. Applications are available through the Destination Hoover International website.

Money for the scholarships was raised at a crawfish and crab boil fundraiser held in May of last year by Jubilee Joe’s. “Without their help, this would not have been possible,” said Shelley Shaw, president of the board for Destination Hoover International.

Jubilee Joe’s plans to hold its 2019 crawfish and crab festival the week of April 23-28, including special food and drink prices, all-you-can-eat crawfish specials, a band playing nightly and a crawfish eating contest at the end of the week. The restaurant will give 5 percent of all its sales to Destination Hoover International that week, owner Kashif Siddiqui said.

There also will be items offered for auction every night that week at about 5 p.m., with all proceeds from the auction going to Destination Hoover International, Siddiqui said.
