Oak Mountain Elementary will host its ninth annual Fall Fun Fest on Saturday, Oct. 19. It began in 2011, which was also Principal Debbie Horton’s first year at OMES. She said this is one of her favorite days of the year.

“This is such a special event as it brings out the entire community,” she said. “Families come out for a day of good old-fashioned fun, food and fellowship. The silent auction being online makes it possible for everyone to participate, even if you are out of town.”

The Fall Fun Fest will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and feature food vendors, bounce houses, outdoor carnival games, crafts, face painting and more. For sports fans, college football games will be shown on a big screen.

Last year, 685 armbands were sold, and PTO President Courtney Casey estimates attendance at around 1,500.

“We have 14 different committees that make up Fall Fun Fest, and our planning begins early in the summer,” Casey said. “We put significant effort into getting sponsors, vendors and auction items from businesses in our area. Our team spends many days and nights communicating and working on everything from sending home tickets to setting up the event in the weeks leading up to Fall Fun Fest. We are so grateful for the families and community partners that help our PTO continue to have a successful Fall Fun Fest year after year.”

Area vendors will have indoor booths with information, samples and giveaways. A silent auction will take place online several days before the event. During the festival, all auction items will be on display until the auction closes at 3 p.m. (Bidders do not have to be present to bid or win an item).

The Oak Mountain Elementary PTO uses the money raised from the event to fund their operating costs, as well as invest in new purchases, which would not be possible without this event and the generosity of our community.

Horton said this event would not be possible without the support and dedication of their wonderful PTO.

“They improve this process each year so that it is enjoyable for everyone,” she said.
