The Highland Lakes Women’s Club will host its fourth annual Holiday Home Tour on Saturday, Dec. 14, from noon-5 p.m. The community, located off U.S. 280 between Greystone and The Narrows, will feature four homes that have been professionally decorated for the holiday season.

Terry Marlowe, president of the Highlands Lakes Women’s Club, said the proceeds for this year’s event will be given to a program of the Shelby County Mental Health Court, which provides alternatives and opportunities for those who have mental conditions in the Shelby County court system.

“They see mental health patients who have gotten into trouble and are in the court system,” she said. “The court has to handle these special cases separate from the rest,” she said.

Marlowe went to court one day to see things first hand. A judge told her donations were the primary method used to put most people through the program, which costs around $600 per person.

“They see a large success rate with it, because of the people who work in the court system and their caring and willingness to help these people,” she said.

The home tour is open to anyone who would like to attend. Tickets can be purchased at the door of any of the participating homes. Map tours will be available at the front and back gates of Highland Lakes.

The event has averages around 225 attendees per year and has raised more than $12,000 for charities over the four years of the event. This year’s community partners will be Shelayne’s Botanicals & Holiday Décor, Lisa Lester Interiors and Bloom & Petal. Piggly Wiggly in Dunnavant Valley will also donate light refreshments.

Marlowe said the biggest thing she’d like to see come from the event is people getting out and being excited about the holiday season with the monies raised going to a good cause.

The Highland Lakes Holiday Home Tour tickets are $20. People can also donate without attending the event by calling Terry Marlowe at 205-704-4111 or via email at terrymarlowe@yahoo.com.
