The Hoover Police Department has arrested a 47-year-old Birmingham woman in connection with an attempted purse snatching that happened in Inverness Corners in late May.

Following a tip submitted to Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama, Cynthia Lyn Kuhn was booked into the Hoover Jail on Friday and transferred to the Shelby County Jail on charges of third-degree robbery and breaking and entering a vehicle. Her bond was set at $12,500.

The attempted purse snatching was reported on May 26, police said. A woman was returning to her vehicle in the Inverness Corners parking lot when she saw another woman had opened her care door and taken her purse, police said.

As the suspect was trying to flee, she reportedly dropped the purse and left the scene in a silver Toyota 4Runner that had damage to the rear driver's side. The victim and a witness provided descriptions of the suspect and the vehicle to police, and a store in the shopping center provided video surveillance of the suspect's vehicle.

Police posted the photo of the SUV and information about the suspect on social media on Wednesday and received a tip via Crime Stoppers. That information provided detectives with more information and allowed them to follow leads and eventually arrest Kuhn.

“Once again, Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama and the public’s help aided in the ability to identify and capture a suspect,” Hoover police officer Brian Hale said in the release. “Without these tools, we might not have been able to close a case which otherwise might have gone cold.”
