Inverness 14U tennis wins state

Inverness Country Club won its second straight 14U Intermediate State Championship and will once again advance to the USTA Southern Team Tennis Sectional Championship. Last year marked the first time Inverness had ever won the state championship, and that team made it all the way to the finals of their flight before losing to National Champion, North Carolina.

Although there are only three returning players that competed in sectionals last year, the team hopes to once again make a deep run.

“This year’s team is a lot different than last year’s team,” Coach Tery Sherer said. “Although we had never won state before, we had an experienced team. This year, our returning players had to step up, and we had to integrate four new players into the team.  I’ve enjoyed watching them grow and progress as players.”
