The first Magic City Con drew crowds ready to enjoy costumes, tabletop games and their favorite movies, video games and TV series.

The convention was held July 24-26 at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center. It included several panels for attendees to hear from famous voice actors, independent filmmakers, ghost hunters and authors. Vendors selling comic books, trading cards and handmade artwork set up shop. There was also a costume contest and KidCon with activities for Magic City Con's younger visitors.

In an interview prior to the convention, event coordinator Rita Houston said she hoped attendees would enjoy Magic City Con enough to make it a repeat event.

“We’re trying to make something interesting for people to come out of Magic City Con and go, ‘Wow, that was fantastic,’” Houston said.
