Motorist charged in multi-vehicle accident on Cahaba Valley Road

Deputies arrested 25 year old Bobby Jack Bernier after he allegedly struck three other vehicles while attempting to flee from Shelby County Deputies Feb. 4. 

A deputy was directing school traffic on Cahaba Valley Road near Keith Drive, when he observed a vehicle driving recklessly through traffic. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused. After fleeing from deputies for a short distance on Cahaba Valley Road, the suspect vehicle came to a stop striking three other vehicles.

Bernier was arrested on the scene on charges of Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance, Assault 1st degree, Assault 3rd degree, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and six counts of Reckless Endangerment. Additional charges will follow.

The passenger of the suspect vehicle was transported to a local hospital and was reported to be in critical condition at the time of the crash. A driver of a separate vehicle reportedly received non-life-threatening injuries, and was also transported to a local hospital.
