North Shelby/Mt Laurel Libraries cancel programming through April; Chelsea library offering curbside service
The North Shelby and Mt Laurel Libraries will remain closed until further notice.
Employees are checking emails and phone messages daily, and can provide assistance for those who need to reach them.
Their websites can be accessed at northshelbylibrary.org or mtlaurellibrary.org and also offer eResources and links to other online sites that may be of interest during this time.
Both libraries are posting information on their Facebook pages: facebook.com/northshelbylibrary and facebook.com/MtLaurelPublicLibraryAL as another way people can stay in contact.
“We are working on offering digital programming as well,” said Vanessa Warner, Children’s Services Librarian at North Shelby. “Currently, we have a digital story time and Puppet Tales that post to our Facebook page on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. People can go back and watch the videos if they miss them.”
Updates on other digital programming will be announced as they are developed and May programming won’t be announced until they are sure they will be able to offer it.
Here are the current offerings for the spring:
- Children, Teens and Adults: Cabin Fever Reading Challenge (through Friday, May 1). A reading challenge while you are safe at home! Log all of that reading for chances to win a $25 Amazon gift card. Sign into your account on our Beanstack site: shelbycounty.beanstack.org to register or sign up for an account and then register.
- Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Digital Puppet Tales via the Facebook page on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A digital edition of Puppet Tales (storytelling using lap puppetry and songs and games with puppets). The videos will remain on the page for later viewing.
- The Bookmark Contest has been postponed until summer.
At the Chelsea Public Library, their doors are locked, but they are still providing curbside service. Patrons can place items on hold and they can fill them if the books are there. Patrons can also call the library and see if the items they want are there. Their website (cityofchelsea.com/225/Library-Home) has links to e-resources and they are updating their Facebook page (facebook.com/chelseapubliclibrary) and website regularly.
Mrs. Emily also does a Facebook Live Tot Spot story time every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. (Same program both days). Program is geared to 1-4 year olds.
