The Alabama Wildlife Center’s resident owls will lend to the Halloween atmosphere at the center’s annual Owl-O-Ween.

The event, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is a chance for families to enjoy spooky activities and support the AWC’s work rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing native birds that are injured or orphaned.

AWC Executive Director Doug Adair said families will be able to see that work in action at the center, located inside Oak Mountain State Park on Terrace Drive. Staff will bring out several of the birds of prey that are permanent residents and act as education ambassadors, and the center has viewing areas to see birds that are currently being treated.

The ambassador birds include different types of owls and hawks, as well as a new bald eagle.

Owl-O-Ween will also include the release of a rehabilitated owl back into the wild.

Other Owl-O-Ween activities include candy, games, crafts, face-painting and storytime.
