Paws for the Cause 5K and 1-mile fun run set for Saturday at Veterans Park

The Animal League of Birmingham on Saturday is holding the seventh annual Paws for the Cause 5K and 1-mile fun run/pet walk at Veterans Park off Valleydale Road in Hoover.

The event is a fundraiser for the Shelby Humane Society.

The 5K is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 1-mile fun run and pet walk at 9:30 a.m. The cost to participate is $35 for the 5K, $25 for the 1-mile fun run and pet walk or $40 for both.

Registration can be done online at www.active.com, and race packets can be picked up at The Trak Shak at 4740 U.S. 280 on Friday between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Runners and walkers also can register on race day between 7 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. for the 5K and between 8:45 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. for the 1-mile fun run and pet walk.

The Animal League of Birmingham encourages people to bring their dogs out for the event.

For those who want to sleep in Saturday morning but still support the Shelby Humane Society, organizers encourage a $25 contribution.
