Oak Mountain holds Polar Plunge

Take the plunge at Oak Mountain State Park Jan. 31.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is hosting its annual Polar Plunge event starting at 8 a.m. at the Oak Mountain State Park Beach. The event will last until noon. 

Anyone 12 and older can participate in the plunge, although participants under 18 must have signed parental permission from a parent or guardian. There will be a costume contest prior to the plunge, and all plungers will receive a T-Shirt.  

Participants are required to pay a $50 online registration fee, but the more money you raise, the cooler the swag you receive such as the Polar Plunge Water Shoes, Toboggan or blanket. All the money raised is supporting Special Olympics Alabama, devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
