Public hearing for Chelsea Post Office

A public hearing regarding the possible relocation of the Chelsea Post office will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at City Hall during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting.

Two previous meetings were scheduled, but canceled, as the USPS did not want the liability of hosting a public meeting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Tony Picklesimer said that the post office needs more space and he is very encouraged that something positive is going to happen. The current post office is located at 16738 U.S. 280 and serves over 5,000 Chelsea residents.

“The public is encouraged to attend and submit questions,” Picklesimer said. “We will have the chamber set up to hold the maximum number of people allowed, and this is an important meeting for our city going forward.”

The council meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall and the public hearing will be the first item on the agenda.
