Public meeting on Alabama 119 improvements, 280 intersections next week

The Alabama Department of Transportation will host a public involvement meeting next week to present its plan to improve the intersection of Alabama State Road 119 and U.S. 280 and to increase the number of lanes on Alabama 119 from Corporate Drive to Brook Highland Parkway.

ALDOT will also present its revised U.S. 280 intersection improvement proposal during the meeting.

The meeting, scheduled for Feb. 28 at the Church at Brook Hills Student Center from 4-7 p.m., will be similar to the November public hearing held by ALDOT at the Cahaba Grand that announced the U.S. 280 intersection project. ALDOT will display of the new project at Alabama 119 and present information on the revised project, which proposes to alter 27 intersections between Doug Baker Boulevard and Hollywood Boulevard. Representatives from ALDOT and project consultant Skipper Consulting of Birmingham will be present at the hearing to explain the maps.

ALDOT is also soliciting written comments during the meeting, but based on a recent workshop hosted by the City of Mountain Brook, these will likely affect only the project at Alabama 119.

On Feb. 6, ALDOT Director John Cooper and Skipper Consulting President Darrell Skipper informed the Mountain Brook City Council and more than 300 residents that the intersection plan would be moving forward. Cooper indicated the Department was satisfied with revisions made based on public comments and intended to bid the project in April.
